March 6, 2019 - Haut Brion vs La Mission Haut Brion dinner with Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): I love the 98 HB and this time is no exception. Expressive, intense yet pure red fruit, so silky, bright acidity and still noticeable but fine tannins. Very close if not equal to the 90 and 00 versions. Drinking beautifully.

Dominant Fruit: Cherry concentrated, red currant.

February 24, 2019 - One of my WOTNs agains stiff competition for me equal to Margaux 96 served alongside. The HB which had 3 hours decant was a voluptuous sexy proposition that showcase the nobility of its terroir as well as boast with beautiful glycerin and red and blue fruit core that was most appealing. Great showing. This wine will be at peak 2025-2050.

February 19, 2019 - Decanted 2,5 hours. Very good bottle. Still pretty young. I guess it will be even better with more age. If you have several bottles it's worth to pop a bottle now, else I would recommend to wait at least 5 more years. 95+ pts at the moment.

February 9, 2019 - Another magnificent bottle. Quick double decant in the morning, stopped it up and evacuated the air, then popped and pours for dinner. In a perfect drinking window with an excellent balance of fruit/freshness and mature earthiness.

January 26, 2019 - Nice bottle. Color still young and ruby. Plenty of fruit, drinking wonderfully. Very nice and many years ahead. Not classic, per se, but a delicious wine.

(Haut-Brion) This had a classic nose right out of the gates. Fresh tobacco, weedy earth, raspberry, cassis, kirsch and cigar box. Sweeter on the palate than the previous wine with more weight but a wonderfully delicate balance. After a while the oak was going back and forth on the nose but it still had that wonderful balance and weightlessness in the mouth that is one of the trademarks of Haut-Brion. Young but great.
