September 13, 2014 - Wine-Ark boys on tour - Hunter Valley 2014 - Day 2 (Hunter Valley): Muted raspberry and cherry fruit, spice. In the mouth it's juicy, with slightly sweet red berry fruit, chalky chewy tannin…an odd slight mid palate scoop then the finish has a slightly herbaceous note. Meh

August 29, 2014 - Given the price it's pretty good value, nice juby fruits on the palate as you'd expect. If only the tannins were a bit smoother and better integrated. Improved with breathing but only slightly.

May 18, 2014 - A medium-full flavoured grenache with a peppery finish. A good example. Will stock up on this. Great value.

Wine Brand: Zeppelin, Australia
Altitude: 225 – 275m
Soil: Sand over clay
Closure: Screw-cap
Alcohol: 15%
Summary
Sourced from 60 – 80 year-old vines
‘Hands off’ winemaking – open fermenters, basket pressed and matured in older oak
Bottled without fining or filtration
History
Traditional techniques and a ‘hands off’ philosophy are used to create wines full of character. Proud of the region’s German heritage, the brand was named in honor of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin – a brave and progressive man who thought big, really big.
Tasting Note
The nose displays sensual fruit aromas of blueberry and black currant that are complimented by a touch of oak spice and earthy undertones. The palate presents concentrated savoury fruit flavours and a great mineral acidity. Chalky tannins help for a long and dry finish.
Vinification and Maturation
Sourced from 60 to 80 year-old vineyards between Greenock and Ebenezer. Open fermenters and pumped over by hand twice daily before basket pressing. Separate parcels were matured in old oak for 12 – 18 months before bottling without fining or filtration.
