    September 14, 2023 - 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Horizontal (San Diego, CA): 100% Grenache.

Ripe raspberry, ripe black currant, violet petals, banana, fermented cabbage, lavender, mediterranean scrub, oliva tapanade, cinnamon, sun-dried tomato, dried chili flakes and tamarind on the nose. About 50/50 between fruit and non-fruit aromas. The palate adds flavors of dried tobacco, dust and dried porcini mushrooms; but keeps most of the interesting non-fruit things from the nose. Overall very mineral driven, though the fruit stays present too. I think this wine is a little abnormal for CdP but I really like it. It feels lighter than I expected in a great way.

Medium + body, medium + acid, medium - tannin. My only negative thing to say about this is that the finish is a tad short. Drink now. This is in a really nice spot and I don't see it benefitting from further aging.

September 3, 2023 - This bottle was in fine shape. Ripe, dark berry fruit. Very open with integrated tannins and decent length. Engaging and appropriate for barbecued meat.

July 15, 2023 - Pleasant to drink. Nice balance and time to drink this one.

July 1, 2023 - Consumed over two nights and found it is in a really good spot.

I'm not good at describing the nose on wines, but I do see the description of violets mentioned by some of the professional reviewers.

Dark berry flavors and well-integrated tannins. Really pleasant as my before dinner glass of wine, and also well with food. Lacking a bit in complexity for a higher score.

August 2, 2021 - Purchased on release at retail. Prune on the nose that never went away. Tasted more like cough medicine than wine. Dumped the bottle down the sink.
