Community Tasting Notes 21

December 24, 2018 - Dark and inky with no bricking. Eucalyptus and rubbing alcohol on the nose, but it wasn't in a bad way. Just very high note smells.

Plenty of grippy tannins with power to last some more time. Lots of green bell pepper when initially opened and even after two hours. With a little more time that greenness moved into green fruits like fig and olive oil.

August 29, 2018 - Just like my last tasting note in 2014. This had Red berry, lavender and sweet basil with spices and dried herbs. The front and mid-palate flow with more red flavors like cherries and raspberries. It is a well balanced wine with just the right amount of acidity and tannins. The finish is mid length.

March 4, 2018 - lovely, silky smooth, with plenty of good fruit and minerality

January 10, 2017 - This wine is firing on all cylinders tonight. Took about 20 minutes to settle down as initially this wine was rather hot. It almost tasted as if it had been cooked. This one was served with a salad that had raspberries and balsamic vinaigrette dressing, feta, walnuts, and an Italian herb encrusted pork loin. It paired ridiculously well with everything (and Balsamic is not easy to pair!). This wine poured a dark red into the glass with some violet tones. The entry of this wine is dark black cherry and a hint of cola. Some rhubarb, herbs, and fig were here in the middle. The finish was even keel, good acidity, good berry finish. Did not compete with the meal, and complemented it ridiculously well. IMO these Stepping Stone wines have never been absolutely amazing, but they HAVE been rather consistent and at the price point they are quite good. Glad I have one more of these, but will probably consume this year or the next because I don't see this one appreciating anymore in the bottle.

April 19, 2016 - Rather nice wine enjoyed with dinner tonight. At first this one had a really kind of funky lavender with green pepper nose. Cork withdrawn to quite a bit of tartrate on it. The nose settled after 30 minutes to include more raspberry. The front displayed quite a bit of exuberance. Raspberry, green pepper (although very slight), lavender and wet stone. The fruit and floral notes outpaced the herbaceousness, which is why I think that Cab franc and other varieties on Napa floor were better than their Cab Sauv counterparts. The finish of this wine is a bit smoky, but had an unmistakable cinnamon graham cracker finish. Just a delicious wine right now in a great place. Glad I have a few more of these. Really showing itself well tonight. I don't think this one will appreciate any in the bottle beyond now, so drink by 2019/20.
