Community Tasting Notes 7

April 25, 2017 - This wine had the 2011 Green Pepper infiltration. I understand why the 88.4 rating exists on average but I don't think that a lot of people gave this wine a chance. This wine was waaaaaay better at 1 hr than at cork pop. This wine was a little green on the front initially and had the "dreaded green pepper" note until it started to reveal its own character. After an hour, nose was chocolate and Fig Newton. Hint of green pepper even after an hour, but not at the forefront. The entry was blackberry and fig, licorice density in the middle. There is still a rather unidentified note here in the middle. Herbal. The finish was peppery and almost had a little jalapeƱo fire. Tannin was medium. Wine overall was medium+ bodied. Drink now. I do believe that this one will continue to appreciate, but I think it's got 1-2 more years in the bottle before its at peak. Drink 2017-2021.

December 1, 2016 - Poor QPR. I bought this through ACME in St Helena. Poor QPR. Took to an office wine tasting. My non-wine employees liked it. This is your gratuitous juice bomb a la Caymus (but for more $$ and no name).

I won't be buying again and see this as an impediment to my relationship with ACME, which is supposed to identify good wines, especially for the value or for the winemaker.

This wine tastes like a blue-berry Poma brand drink mixed with wine. I can't believe this was $100.

As a 2011, this wine is drinking as well as it will drink. Age won't benefit the wine. Poor effort, poor year and poor QPR. Avoid.

And ACME wonders why I quit the club?!?!?

June 27, 2016 - Sunfish 400th Tasting (Sunfish cellars): A small tasting pour. Soft, non-descript cabernet.

June 25, 2016 - Sunfish Cellar High End Tasting (Sunfish Cellars, St. Paul, MN): Tasting pour. Smoky, scorched earth, blackberry, cassis.

October 19, 2015 - NO WAY to properly rate this wine at the present time. This wine opens up to a curtain of oak and black pepper and stayed that way for at least an hour. It wasn't until then that the wine started in with a tobacco note on the front. After two hours, this wine was still fig jam and pipe tobacco on the front, a little more woodsy in the middle with a tart plum and dark earth. Finished with a very stiff oaky tannin and black pepper. Actually went quite well with Italian food that was more on the "farm to table" side. This wine is incredibly young, and will improve with 1-2 more years in bottle before being uncorked. 2016-2022.
