Community Tasting Notes 4

April 19, 2020 - Light colour, transparent. Looked a bit shut down at first so I decanted for a while. After about 2 hours in the decanter it started to unfurl a bit more. There’s a little bit of brett in the background, but more the clove-y, spicy leathery brett. I’m worried it’s stripped the fruit a little. It never quite reached the heights I hoped it would. There’s a thick layer of biscuity oak laid over the top of it all. Smells like the inside of a sauna. Some strawberry/earthy mushroom characters underneath but it’s all quite subdued. There’s a sweet and sour spot on the palate too. Tastes of place which I like, it’s definitely Burgundian, but there’s something off about the balance here which keeps it from being great.

February 28, 2015 - La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Red cherry on nose and palate with a firmness I'd more easily associate with good Gevrey than Chambolle. Certainly good, if not classic.

February 28, 2015 - 2014 La Paulee Grand Tasting (New York): Forward, bright, nice cherry, spice, some oak.

February 12, 2014 - Wildman 2012 Burgundy Preview and Barrel Tastings (New York, NY): Tasting pour. Reduction here too. Light, lovely fruit. Second winner of the lineup for me behind the super reductive Champeaux.
