Community Tasting Notes 17

June 13, 2020 - Much tighter than the Gatekeeper. Nose is floral and savoury. Palate is bright but a little pinched with dominant tannins which leave things a little off balance. Perhaps this needs more time but not hugely coherent at the moment.

February 15, 2020 - On day-1, I found this bottle to be a pleasure as per usual with Drew -- not the most complex, gripping, or ethereal -- but still it brought great pleasure and a sense of its source vineyard. I finished the bottle on Day-2 where I felt the wine had picked up a kink or two that I can't exactly put my finger on. I've had much older Drew Pinot that I've adored, so it's possible this wine is (or this bottle was) in some transition. Maybe it was an oxidized or stewed fruit note in the mid-palate; something metallic and rotting possibly. I wish I had better notes to describe the day-1/day-2 experience, but free time has not abide with me these past weeks. I have one more bottle to try down the line.

September 3, 2019 - Delicate and silky but a little hollow on the mid palate. Wild strawberries and a touch of earth as the wine might be showing some secondary notes. This is probably just off peak so don’t wait any longer. A very pretty and refined wine

December 26, 2017 - We agree with the two most recent notes — this has really come around since our last bottle 25 months ago. For a California Pinot Noir, it is surprisingly elegant. A restrained touch of earth. Integrated red fruit. Lovely definition, beautiful balance, all making it highly enjoyable over four nights.

December 25, 2017 - Bright ruby. Starts of a little tart, redcurrant and cranberry. Good definition and line though. Fills out a little with air, some strawberrry fruit joins the mix. Quite long. ****
