January 21, 2023 - Initial nose was of cedar and maybe some light green notes but on day two the green was gone and replaced by tobacco aromas. Much better tonight than last night with blackcurrant and other dark fruit like maybe plums. The length is superb as the black fruit starts to dominate. The Comtessa should be proud of this effort. Frankly I love PL in off vintages. The 1988 remains my favorite of those.

December 25, 2022 - Mature Bordeaux, nose of iron, tea, Jamaican coffee, red fruits, still alive with decent acidity, good claret

August 24, 2022 - Tasted double blind, my guess was Merlot-heavy right bank wine due to the softness and elegance the wine exudes. A very solid wine, full of tertiary aromas and still some fruit left. No point in waiting any longer as it is clearly drinking at its peak. This confirms the positive impression from a big Comtesse vertical last year where the 1993 was one of the positive surprises (rated the same 92 pts). Of course, there isn’t the complexity of better vintages and what the Chateau produces today couldn’t be farther away but definitely a success in this difficult vintage.
TN: Medium intense mature Bordeaux nose with tobacco, truffles, fine dark fruit, some red berries. On the palate more creamy red fruit, herbs, truffles, tobacco, fine, melted tannins, medium tension, good acidity, keeping the wine fresh and light, medium length with a rather unimpressive finish. Overall a good balance.
Decanting: Not decanted, no extensive decanting necessary. -

August 7, 2022 - Tasted blind. Delicate, even though borderline frail. Drops of red cherry and blue type of berries, a touch of menthol, lots of earth and tobacco and a touch of spice. Overall really nicely aged with fine layers. The palate is still juicy and has a nice acidity kick to it. 93+

May 15, 2022 - Decanted for about 90 minutes at a restaurant so can only speak to after it was poured. All tertiary as we struggled for fruit on the nose and on the palate. On the palate, primarily berry and leather notes. Not sure much more time would have helped this but just possibly oxidized it more.
