December 16, 2023 - From a bottle that’s been open 2 weeks. Not sure I should be taking a note on this. A little rotting leaves on the nose but also some spices chocolate some heat. Leaves. Cassis. Palate is better - some sweetness abstracted from the fruit, sous bois, spice and chocolate, good acid. Something like orange peel. Dark and somewhat bitter. Wonder what I was like when opened. Nose - 3.5/6, Palate - 4.5-5/6, Finish 4/6, Finish - 1/2 = 13-13.5/20.

November 23, 2023 - Drinking absolutely perfectly right now. Pure scent of strawberry upon opening, still extremely fresh for a wine with this amount of age. Only had a short amount of time for the decant and wish I had more--throughout the evening gained a lot of other flavors in sequence, but really notable were bay leaf, pine nut, and the smell (but not taste) of black pepper. Really chewy tannins. Extremely pure expression and plenty of complexity. Not sure if I lucked out on the bottle being stored well, but a real gem! I've got one more bottle and will save it for another special occasion--still tons of life left!

Just not, by my standards, faithful to the identity of Barbaresco. A wine of its time. I wore baggy pants too once. A style point. If you still like baggy pants, this may be right up your alley. Certainly holding up well. Sadly, bought on release, when baggy pants were quite the thing.

November 12, 2021 - My last bottle of this, and ten years after my earlier TN. Aged 25, this still has remarkable freshness and vigour. It's bright and vivid in the glass, deep red though with a fair bit of bricking at the rim. From opening, the perfume has been gorgeous, and it's been developing very nicely in the glass ever since. Blue and black berry fruits and plums. A swirl brings tobacco, leather and mushrooms into play. Also a menthol note. The oak here is beautifully integrated and gives everything a nice, expensive sheen, and a hint of something resinous. Roasted nuts too. Lovely balance on the palate, though the tannins are still pretty robust and call for some rich food to soak them up. Sad to see my last bottle of this go, but it's a wonderful send-off.
