Community Tasting Notes 8

March 4, 2017 - On opening, the color is paler than I would like, and the nose and palate mute, leafy, not much interest; and as a result, took a younger bottle of Chambolle 1er cru along to dinner as a backup. No need for that. This wine desperately needed aeration, and with air, the color leaned toward deep red/blue, the nose became a fragrant mix of earthy notes and berries - for all the world like a walk through a vineyard after rain on a warm day. The palate still has some fresh fruit, a hint of tannin and decent acidity; medium weight. Kept improving throughout the meal, and a great match with our main courses of duck breast and braised oxtail. This is at the leading edge of a nicely balanced maturity - not bad for a "light restaurant vintage" of this wine.

June 1, 2016 - Chevillon Roncières vertical at The Bristol (Chicago, IL): Double decanted an hour before dinner. From the Chevillons tonight, I'd say that this was my favourite. It's drinking marvelously well right now, although perhaps it's just a little bit too giving. Cheerful red fruit, with not so much leanness as the 1996 or the 2001. There's a touch more ripeness here that makes this much more accessible, and indeed, this was pretty much roaring from the get-go. The stems are very subtle here, and they add a nice touch to the fruit.

April 25, 2014 - Bought recently off retail shelves so no surprises that this is pretty developed. Rich, luscious without any black fruit ripeness. Slightly green tannic finish.

Not quite as good as Les Perrieres.

Some weeks later 2nd bottle even better. Changed in the glass over the evening developing richness.

January 7, 2011 - In perfect condition. Fruity, open nose from the beginning: blackberry, some cherry and raspberry, a touch of forest herbs later. Very round and well balanced in the mouth, uncomplicated, but doesn't lack the necessary power. Quite long finish. A pleasure up to the last drop!

June 14, 2010 - Like many 2000s, showing well now. Raspberry, cherry, some earth. Fairly low acid, light tannins, but pretty fruit. Don't think I would have pegged this for NSG blind, but a tasty bottle. B+
