February 10, 2024 - Normal fill level. Though no spritz was detected, I am happy that this bottle, with the wine nearing twenty years of age, was almost identical to the one which was the subject of my last note. No loss of vitality eminent. It should age to a quarter of a century. Between very good and very good plus.

April 22, 2023 - Drawn from the cellar at 10°C and poured. Cork broke in two. 2.5cm ullage. Bright medium yellow. A little quince but more slightly pungent yellow citrus on nose. Nice sleek mouth with vibrant front, slightly creamy middle and a good clean finish. Spritzig throughout. Ripening peach rather than ripe peach flavour. Doesn't spell 2004 at any stage, though the acid, while ripe, is plentiful. A lot better than the previously noted bottle. Close enough to very good plus. If the majority of the remaining bottles are like this I'll be happy.

December 19, 2021 - Old leak. Light yellowish with green tinge. Cream and apple nose is quite simple for the prädikat. The mouth is fresh, but while it is better than what one would expect if this was a qualitätswein, it lacks the depth, concentration and nuance of a wine at spätlese level. Possible bottle variation? Though certainly not tired and good plus, this particular example perhaps starts to reveal that this was not the best vintage to pick from the Saar.

May 23, 2021 - Had over 2 days. Full yellow colour. The nose shows cream, wax and some peach, plus cool-climate white fruit, but rather modest on the whole. The palate has spätlese weight and is both long and more telling, though the white and green-tinged fruit, and the nectarine acidity, give the vintage away. While it improved by half a notch to a very good plus on the 2nd day, this bottle didn't come close to the excitement provided by the one in 01.2015.

January 25, 2015 - Youthful yellow colour. The nose begins with nuts, citrus fruit, honey and is very ripe indeed, particularly for the vintage. Proper spätlese weight and generous, yellow peachy fruit and zesty, yellow citrus fruit flavours of surprising intensity. Lacking tension on the front, but the middle and finish are where the electricity is to be found. An hour later, the yellow fruit is replaced by white fruit and a little lanolin, with some greenish fruit showing up as well, and there is tension and energy right across the palate, the wine finishing with a lovely pungency. More than five hours later, the wine finishes with an intense blackcurrant flavour and acidity. This is a very, very successful spätlese for the vintage. Fine plus.
