May 2, 2022 - Pop and Pour
Crimson in color, bricking is obvious
Beautiful nose, very seductive. Hedonistic cherry and graphite notes. Lean on the palate... as all of the 13s are, but very well balanced and harmonious.
This is about as thrilled as I have been about any of the 2013's I purchased, it was truly a magnificent drinking experience, especially considering the vintage.
Ultimately, this bottle verified to me that the 2013's need to be consumed in short order, they are not getting any better, and... perhaps some would argue, are getting worse. Today, I feel like the 2013 is in its sweet spot, glad we chose to open it.1 person found this helpful Comment -

April 8, 2020 - Château Margaux Vertical 2003-2015: All wines tasted blind alongside the matching vintage of Sassicaia (see separate tasting story). The quality of the Margauxs transcends through the vintages with exceptional complexity and precision and a soft- and roundness not many left bank wines show that young. Many off-vintages delivered great pleasure (06, 08, 12) but of course the best wines were from the top vintages. Winner again was the 2009 (already won in a top 50 wines from 2009 retrospective last June) thanks to an unbelievable depth and sexiness. The 2015 (hyper pure and singular) and the 2010 (the definition of finesse) are just a tad behind, with the 2005 (like so many 2005s) showing promising but not ready. Average score for the Margauxs at very high 94.8 points (clearly higher than the 92.1 for the Sassicaias, which - no surprise - only beat Margaux in the very weak Bordeaux vintages 2011/2013).
TN: This was the only Margaux that was not instantly recognizable in the blind tasting vs the matching vintage of Sassicaia. Much lighter in style with lots of pure, well-defined red berries at the core and some grassy (or green) notes and slight earthy tones. The nose was very muted, the palate not. Not overly complex but what is there is highly precise and the length is surprisingly good too. 92/93 points easily.1 person found this helpful Comment -

March 2, 2020 - Margaux vs Sassicaia double vertical: Sassicaia vs Margaux face-off hosted by a private collector. I was surprised by the unambiguousness of the result in this 13- year (2003-2015) double vertical. Margaux beats Sassicaia 10x with Sassicaia on top only 3x. Of the 26 wines tasted, the top 6 (all scored 95 and higher) were all Margaux with 2009, 2010 and 2015 all somewhere between regal and galactic. In sum, the average score for Margaux was 94.4 (range 92-98) as compared to a Sassicaia average of 93.1 (range 92-94). See tasting story for a few more high level remarks.
Bright, light red fruit, some mineral notes of smoke or lava. Otherwise fresh and fruity with lots of red berries. Well structured, but clearly more simple than other vintages. Slightly acidic imbalance on the palate and very fruit-forward. Actually quite respectable given the vintage. -

March 14, 2019 - My first of 6 that I bought on futures. Its a nice wine, but not great. I think there are better Margaux Bordeaux wines from better vintages for 1/3 the price. Pretty floral nose, medium length finish. Elegant, as opposed to a blockbuster. Decanted for 45 minutes, it never changed over the course of the 90 minutes it took to finish it.
