Community Tasting Notes 3

November 11, 2021 - Morgante Don Antonio back vintage vertical tasting. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance very deep opaque intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of floral violets, dark red cherry plums, thick black cherries, blackberry jam, mocha, spices. Developing.
on the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15%), silky smooth high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherry plums, black cherries, blackberries, mocha, dark spices, licorice, emerging earth with smokiness. Long finish.
Very good quality. In a good window. Approaching full maturity.

May 25, 2019 - I had not tasted a Don Antonio Nero d'Avola in almost ten years and it does not disappoint. This is a concentrated, dark inky ruby, with just a hint of garnet. Made from the best estate vineyards near Agrigento, at 1,485-1,815 feet in altitude. The nose is developing, even at nine years of age, with ripe black and red fruit, red flowers, and a fair amount of mocha and oak spice from 12 months in French oak. The palate is dry, with intense, dark fruit, medium acidity, medium (+) silky tannins and high alcohol (15%). The alcohol, however, seems more balanced due to the overall gravitas of the wine. This is a very modern and international expression of Nero d'Avola, made by rock star consulting enologist Riccardo Cotarella. It is a polished yet muscular red, to be paired with with rich meats and cheeses. It is still drinking well now and has many years left.
