January 17, 2023 - Clear red, light sediment in bottle, pale rim. Smooth, easy drinking, vanilla nose, medium weight. At its peak.

December 29, 2021 - Second day in Chartres and this time a bottle shop I recommend less (Cave St Lubin). Selection is prima facie interesting, if limited, but pricing is erratic and service seems likewise. This was approaching €40 (€39.90) which was in retrospect wildly optimistic. It’s a perfectly lovely middle aged Bdx. Mild red berries, a touch of green. Medium length, even finish. And then a bitter taste of being fleeced. Caveat emptor indeed.

May 22, 2021 - Briefly decanted then drank over a simple home-cooked dinner of Dhal and Basmati Rice. Semi-transparent lambs’ blood colour. Recognisably Pauillac nose of spice and cedar with a savoury secondary element. Palate has a still firm tannic structure and nice acidity with some plummy fruit. Had the weight to handle the spicy food. Nothing special but a perfectly acceptable lower-tier Pauillac for US$25. Probably drinking at its best right now. 87 easy.

April 10, 2021 - Glass staining, purple red rim, red centre. Ripe, vanilla nose. Medium weight, more savoury than fruit. Oak prominent initially, then grape and tannic grip. Very enjoyable. Good with food or on its own. Pleasant glow on the finish. Great with hard cheese. Can’t find the right words for the savoury taste in the roof of the mouth - but like it !
