Community Tasting Notes 22

December 31, 2023 - Still rather primary, though it doesn't taste like a young del Pino, which is typically a more intensely fruity affair. This will continue to improve for at least a few years, bit it'll always be firmly tannic, a classically styled Barbaresco.

Aromas of sweet red and black fruit, red licorice, wild herbs, roses... On the palate it's lusciously fruity for a second, then herbs and licorice, then flowers and minerals, then the tannins grip firm and a pop of red and black fruits emerges to offset the engaging austerity of imposing structure. Long and intense, this is classic del Pino Ovello, and a real pleasure to witness in this almost mature state. I would love to see it again in a few years. Well kept bottles should be in fine form in 10+ years.

November 30, 2023 - The Northern Burbs You Say? (Churchill Street, Shoreview, MN): Dark red color. Drank a glass over 45 minutes. Medium ful bodied, tar, gravel and mineral notes, firm tannins, cherry fruit with good purity, nicely put together, long and delicious.

March 13, 2023 - An earlier exploratory purchase of Barbaresco before I knew much about producers. Don't think this has a long future. On the down slope. Sadly, I still have one other to try again soon w/ something simple on weeknight.

April 13, 2022 - Balsamic wood, strawberry nose, medium bodied, simultaneously sweet, tart, and balanced. This still seems young (and we’re talking 12 years already?? I’ll be in the assisted living facility by the time the 2017s are ready).

Incredible savory and sweet notes and a finish that just goes on and on. Wow.

December 23, 2021 - Décanté pendant plusieurs heures. Fin, soyeux et long. Buvable aujourd’hui mais sans aucun doute meilleur dans 3 ou 4 ans
