November 18, 2017 - Old school Barbaresco. Berries, florals, and quite elegant despite big tannins.

February 25, 2016 - Blinds at Californios - 6 (Californios SF): Correct and powerful. There's aromatic complexity and savagely chewy tannins - I really like this.
---
(blind)
Visual
- clear, bright
- moderate minus red to a garnet rim
- no gas or sediment
- moderate viscosity
Nose
- clean-ish - slight bruised apple acetaldehyde
- elevated intensity aromatics
- dried cherry, dried cherry, dried cranberry
- significant development - sweet tobacco/tamari note
- no evidence of oak - neutral barrels
- herbaceousness - clove spice (not from oak), cumin
Palate
- dry
- medium body
- high alcohol - 15% (correct!)
- elevated acid
- high tannins - very chewy
- red fruit - dried cherry, dried cranberry
- dried roses, dried flowers
- tobacco - slight development, bruised apples
- no evidence of new oak
- more earth on the palate - fresh and dried forest floor, wet leaves
Initial
- structurally: high tannins and elevated alcohol and overall lightness
- Nebbiolo
- Brunello - it has the development for a young Brunello, but it’s too structurally over-weighted.
Final
- Nebbiolo > Piedmont > Barolo, 2010

April 1, 2015 - Is 2010 Barolo over yet? Moving on to 2011 Barbaresco now. This one is great, exactly what Barbaresco should be - same great taste, less annoying tannins. It almost feels silky, except for the fact that the tannins are actually pretty screechy, though they're still constrained enough that the pretty red fruit is in the foreground (and very pure, too, with an inky saturation). I think the fabric here is ultimately very elegant and supple, even if at this young age those classic nebbiolo tannins are leaving it a bit starched. That seems confirmed in the leftovers the next day, which are much softer with the fruit intensity undiminished.

February 20, 2015 - Slightly deeper than the Nebbiolo. More floral aromatics. Elegant, light red fruit on the entry, but then slightly harsh tannins to finish. Grainy feel and certainly not well knit yet.
