  December 16, 2020 - The wine ullage was almost original with only a cm below the cork. The cork was soft-ish so I used the 2 pronged puller continuously rotating and it came out perfectly. The wine penetration was within a cm and the bouquet was immediately dark fruited and gorgeous.
  
  The decant produced some fine tannin in the fine gauge filter funnel and some fine deposit in the bottle. I cleaned the bottle, refilled it and took it to lunch, served about 3 hours later.
  
  Sensational dark almost black colour, magnificent bouquet of dark berries and so impressive for a '91.
  
  The wine still tastes mainly of dark fruit in the blackberry and blackcurrant spectrum with excellent tannin and acid balance. There is some nuanced menthol influence but its not strong. The fruit flavours are quite intense and therefore there is a lot of life left in this wine, I'd say it will go another 20 years!
  
  The finish is lingering and pleasant with a length that's also impressing. It stands up to food extremely well.
  
  You can impress friends with this one for years to come.

  November 22, 2020 - well after a superb dinner at La Luna the night before whereby i gloated all night on the rarity and class of the wines, i was amazed at the class of this wine from Peter at his place for dinner. I struggled to pick the year, or anything. its not in the class of 91 Riddoch but its still way up there, dense, dark red fruit still oaky a little but lovely long sweet palate that just kept going. dense and rich it is a wine i had not had for many years as i prefer Riddoch but must reignite my love affair with . Thanks Peter it was yum. We also had a 2005 Yering Station Reserve Chardonnay and it was yummo too.
  
  HOWEVER......this brings me onto Peters big mouth getting himself into all sorts of bother. After he sniggered and ponced around at me not picking the 91 Michael ( because i usually do pick the wines) he swanned around the room and said "would you like a desert wine". he then pontificated that i would not pick this. he turned and headed toward the pantry where it was stored. before he got there he stopped and turned around and said and I quote " if fact there is no chance you will pick this and if you do i will give you a bottle of Grange". I said " a bottle with a contents in it". He said and I quote again " Yes and ANY vintage you want".
  
  He returned with two glasses of what looked like old tokay but clearly was not. I took a smell and a taste and said with nothing but pure conviction " this is Debortoli Black Noble"
  
  The colour ran out of his face and he immediately tried to poker face me and divert attention to it might being something Spanish. but being a poker player ( at a reasonably high level in my heyday ) i saw right through this little charade.
  
  I said " no, its Black Noble and I would like a Cliniced bottle of 1960 Grange thanks"
  
  I've given him until Xmas to procure it. i told him if he had trouble sourcing it, i would settle of 61, 62 or 63....some people just will never learn will they!!!!

  September 5, 2019 - Pulled this out of the cellar and left it upright for several weeks to let the sediment settle. I believe it is the last of only three I had, written on label bought for $40AUD on 23/4/1995. Delighted to find an absolutely magnificent bottle with only a little sediment, cork sound although at the end of it’s useful life. Beautiful deep red colour -no brown at all, sweet nose, full of dark berry fruit on a tight tannin base. Long palate and oh so enjoyable with a red meat meal. Sealed up three times (air removed) and still unchanged after 4 glasses over a full week. Could not be better, offering a long and tight palate, rich but not over rich, sweet berry notes with slight tints of sweet tobacco. A shiraz (or possibly just a bottle) for the ages! I don’t recall the others being this good or even this promising but they would have been consumed around a decade ago.
