Community Tasting Notes 2

January 3, 2016 - We decanted the wine for two hours and followed its development over a period of another two. It was medium amber in colour and threw some fine sediment. On the nose the wine offered orange marmalade, apricot, orange blossom, beeswax, wild honey, spice and a hint of tobacco. On the palate the medium- to full-bodied, rich, ripe, exotic wine showed orange marmalade, apricot, caramelized pear, wild honey, spice and tobacco, with fresh, lively, medium to medium-plus acidity, a touch of tannin, a good mouthfeel and incredible length. The wine’s distinct bitterness was mildly disturbing. Not easy to pair with food; today salty, dry cured ham worked best.

July 12, 2014 - Visiting Roxanich winery (Istria, Croatia): Tasted at the winery. Recently bottled, due out to the market later this year. Well, this is a different Chardonnay! As with the Malvazija, it is allowed to sit in large wooden vats for long periods of time. The colour is quite dark amber and on the nose we have clear ripe apricots, on the palate good acidity, austere stone fruits, very dry and very good!
