Community Tasting Notes 6

    January 14, 2018 - Popped and poured
I had this alongside the estate 2010 vintage and initially both showed the family resemblance but after an hour the reserve open up the blew the estate out of the water - very Burgundian in style
Next time I will decant for a couple of hours

January 9, 2018 - 12 months on since my last tasting and the only thing that has changed is the colour , the clear edges are now a tinge if brown ,BUT the nose and palate are sensational , tried it in a variety of Riedel glassware but the wine rose above - I reckon this would taste good in a jam jar

January 6, 2017 - Colour translucent Ruby red with clear edges , just a tinge of browning (7yo so expected) 15/15
Nose super intense , complex , layer after layer of aromas , raspberry compote , plums red fruits , red cherries dried herbs , barnyard , leather , coffee 30/30
Palate full flavoured Pinot sweet and savoury at the same time amazingly long silky finish 30+ seconds , beautiful balance fruit fruit and tannins , gamey , great complexity , a bit hot on the finish 14% alc 42/44
Overall First time for me , is it worth the asking price ? No sure but as a wine , sensational and right up there with the best premium Pinots from NZ Nose better than the palate but that is splitting hairs 10/11

    Certainly a privilege to drink
Vinification • Seven barrels selected to be the best of the best • 16 months in French oak barriques – 14% new oak, 57% one year old and 29% 2yr old, • Francois Freres, D&J and Remond barrels used • No fining, light filtration • Bottled 26th March 2012, 50 magnums, 1868 bottles • Aged for twenty months in bottle prior to release

May 18, 2016 - Mainly Pinots Dinner with Peter Rosback: Popped and poured. The 2010 equivalent of Martinborough Vineyards' previous Reserve Pinots. A top quality NZ Pinot. A fragrant bouquet of raspberries, herbs, smoke and gentle florals. On the palate, good weight and power. Showing elegance, finesse and complexity. "It reflects the cooler vintage" said Paul. Good acidity, balance and length. Ideally this wine needs time to develop greater detail. Give it 5+ years.

October 17, 2015 - glengarry pinot tasting; 10/16/2015-10/18/2015 (glengarry thorndon): beautifully balanced, fragrant and delicate, but still has the structure to age magnificently. the best pn of the tasting. unfortunately wasn't served blind.
