January 5, 2018 - First Private Budget Red Quaffer Re-Buy Contest Marathon; 9/1/2017-2/13/2018 (At Home): In light of my previous bottles I wasn’t originally going to include this in my re-buy contest and merely wished this last bottle good riddance but it turned out to be pure delight ! It seems to me that the ridiculous price (under 5 € for me !) owes to quality of individual bottles being unreliable and of great variability. Alternatively, or also, maybe this is just how long it took this wine to be ready. But the upshot is that in contrast to my previous resolution I think I will re-buy a case of some cheap Apulian Primitivo, for instance from Cantine San Marzano, for intermittent, unassuming purposes.
Deep garnet color with deep black shadows. Fast legs, low viscosity. Nose of black currant, blackberry, black pepper and mushroom. Palate of blackberry jam and black currant, fruit induced sweetness in good balance against acidity and plenty of tannins. A fruit bomb, yes, but not so bad. -

January 8, 2017 - Like last time, except the green notes had initially softened a bit, but it also didn't improve so much, at least not over the 4 days I drank this bottle. Black currant jam and dried juniper berry on nose and palate, plus a little bit of cigar box on the nose. But those medicinally bitter green notes...
Use for cooking. Though I have one bottle to go and will drink it up. Because I am stoic. And how else am I going to learn not to buy such stuff ? Burp. -

August 18, 2015 - Note 10/19/2015: I think this is the same wine as this wine here, and it's just a re-labeled bottling for Hawesko or otherwise produced by a different bottler based on the same material.
Disclaimer: the rating is contingent on the discovery of day 6. This last bottle at least was an 85 on the opening day at the most. I recommend to try a glass on day 1, and if it has bothersome green notes, put the stopper back on and leave it for a week, then try again.
Day 6: This is one of the most incredible transformations I have seen in a wine so far. After leaving only a glass in the bottle for 3 days away with a vacuum stopper on, the green notes, so reminiscent almost of a flawed botttle only a couple days before, have so nicely married the tannins that I wouldn't want them to leave again -> 88.
Day 3: Even a bit better today -> 87.
Day 2: Better the day after. Green notes have integrated into the "soup" somewhat, now tolerable -> 86.
Day 1: (was 85) Garnet to violet glass, nose of black forest berry and dried juniper berry, a little spicy. Palate of astringent unripe fruit and tannins, but sadly also some excessive alcoholic imbalance, even a medicinal bitterness in green notes.
