July 2, 2021 - Deeper ruby color; prominent aromas of black cherry, raspberry, wet pine needles, rose petals, licorice, spice, mushroom, umami; sour fruit on back of the palate; puckery acidity; firm, weighty, rich finish with dry tannin that still feels elegant. Better after 24 hrs.

December 28, 2020 - In a better place than six months ago (or it was a better bottle). Tannins weren't a problem this time, at any rate. Still tart, however, okay with but almost too much so for a traditional coq au vin. After dinner, we tested it with cherry tomatoes and bits of pickled carrot, to see if pairing it against acidity cancelled out the wine's acidity and popped more fruit--bingo, it did. Remaining bottles will be paired accordingly--choucroute garni, sauerkraut, sauerbraten, Spanish chicken with vinegar, that kind of thing will turn this wine's deficit into a positive.

July 15, 2020 - Opened to celebrate Bastille Day. Has put on a lot of weight in last two years. Grand Cru concentration and quality very evident now. Drank fairly nicely after a two-hour decant, but the tannins turned grippy during the second glass. Nowhere near peak.

December 27, 2018 - Decanted for most of a day. Loosened up well, and while lacking the body one would expect of a grand cru, the Burgundian essence was very much there. Fun to compare at the same meal with its American cousins.

December 29, 2016 - There's a lovely wine lurking in these bottles, but it will take some time. I decanted this one for 6 hours and even a few hours after that, it was still shy and gave up just a few hints of some alluring perfumed fruit and earthy mineralily. Palate was structured, big and also reticent. It will reward patience.
