  May 15, 2019 - Stunning, and what a surprise. A deep colour verging between ruby and crimson. Olive brine, earth, leather, dried red fruit, cured meat. Such a complex and generous nose. Very long finish, still lively.

  March 10, 2019 - Rhone, lots of it (Chicago, IL): These old "lesser" Guigal wines can be a real surprise sometimes, but I didn't find this particular bottle to be too convincing. Nice olive and brine elements on the nose, with a fair bit of acidity and elegance, but there's a sense of desiccation here as well. Given the age though, I've no doubt that there could be some impeccably stored bottles that are absolutely delicious.

  December 22, 2018 - My last bottle from a full case purchased on release. Decanted at 4pm and tasted until gone around 9:30pm. This did not disappoint! Translucent medium ruby in the glass with just slight bricking on the meniscus. The nose had cherry, earthy tones of cedar and tobacco as well as some nice peppery spice. Palate was still lively and rich with layer after layer of flavors. Most notable were the cherry and black currant along with licorice, tobacco, cedar and tons of leather. The finish was amazingly long and full of the leather, cigar tobacco and spice. Just a wonderful bottle of wine that at 35 years old was probably as good as you could hope for!

  Funk washes off - initially very heavy on smoke and cigars, but pulls back to reveal a surprisingly wet and fruity wine which is fully integrated
