October 1, 2014 - Interesting wine. 71% Tempranillo, 15% Touriga Nacional, 7% Tinta Amarela, 7% Tinta Cao. Wine benefits a lot from an hour in decanter. Wine is richer and bolder than most Pedernales offerings I have had.
Wine is clear and bright. Light purple in color, veering toward light ruby near the rim. Acid is med (+); Alcohol is med (+); Tannin is med to med (-) with more silk than dustiness; Viscosity is med (+); Finish is med to med (+).
On the Nose: Earth, tar, damp forest floor & ripe dark fruit.
On the Palette: Nice acidity, ripe black cherry, ripe blackberry, plum. Earth and damp forest floor characteristics. Oak characteristics - particularly vanillin on the attack. Hint of bitterness on the finish - but not necessarily a negative thing.
Rich & powerful wine, but still demonstrates restraint. Wine holds its components together sufficiently well - in large part thanks to its excellent acidity.
