May 7, 2023 - dark gold amber; not a floral nose but creme brulee, with emphasis on the brulee, slightly burned aspect which was very cool; despite being a VT the sugar levels were way low (VT doesn't necessarily have to be really sweet) and was really nice with the date cake and maybe a little less so with the excellent bread pudding. Did not fit with the double chocolate cake (which completely overpowered everything). boeuf Bourguignon

June 8, 2022 - Spectacular wine! Aromatics are beyond pronounced. Extremely unctuous and full bodied. Sweetness has resided a bit and the wine is now medium sweet. Keep it chilled though, as abv is very high

December 30, 2019 - Upon opening, we feared this was on the verge of past its best. Monolithic tangerine, sweetness, very pleasant, but not much complexity. Day two though this really took on depth and conplexity, with lovely nuances of ginger, cumin, cardamon spices, candied fruits, but so much more focused and delineated. Lovely now, with the caveat of sufficient air.

July 13, 2015 - Dinner at Bida Manda with Mom. Deep Amber in color. This bottling has always been spectacular but oddly bottles seem to vary as to whether the Rangen or Gewurz characteristics come to the front. Tonight it was Gewurz first and Rangen second. Beautiful spice and lychee mix with Rangen peat and minerality. While certainly not dry the very high level of residual sugar is well concealed and washed off the palate by high acid levels. A bit of Gewurz roughness on the palate ( a plus ). This may be entering a slightly muted phase from which it will certainly emerge or maybe this bottle is just a little shy compared to previous bottles. This is a very relative statement as this is a very flamboyant wine even with what I'm calling muted. I think I'll keep my hands off of these for 5 years and drink other vintages but do I have the discipline to do so??? 50+14+13+8.5+8.5=94

September 27, 2013 - Dinner at Peking Duck House, NYC the night before Lily's Bat Mitzvah. Opened in celebration of being from the same vintage as Lily and like the Bat Mitzvah girl this was beautiful, sophisticated and amazing! Dark gold in color with reddish tones this wine is a powerhouse that worked extremely well with the richness of the perfectly prepared Peking Duck. Rangen first and Gewurz second as was expected. Full of the peat and minerality so typical of Rangen and with a Gewurz spiciness matched with a wild tropical note. Full bodied with a seemingly endless finish this wine seems to have entered a beautiful drinking plateau that challenges the great '98 and should remain drinking at this same level for a good 15-20 years. A stunning wine in honor of a stunning young woman! 50+14+14+10+9.5=97.5
