Community Tasting Notes 7

August 8, 2009 - Drinking with dinner at Houston's in the city after wine tasting all the Goldeneye offerings. Goldeneye's best is better but this compares very well to the Goldeneye itself.

September 21, 2008 - 89-90. Needs air to get to 90 pts. Not terribly good when first opened. Very ripe, but with some astringency and bitterness. Becomes rounder and a bit more complex with air. Not great QPR.

July 29, 2007 - Terrific, full bodied Pinot. It's really starting to come together.

June 11, 2007 - This is an ultra-ripe decadent fruit bomb of a pinot. Heady, smokey, dark fruit aromas spill out of the glass. It's 14.5% alcohol is evident right away on the nose, but is much more balanced and integrated on the palette than I excpected. Nice mouthfeel. Definitely some complexity on the palette, but the overriding flavor is a plum that is so ripe it borders on prune. Interesting and fun to drink now because of it's incredible ripeness, this wine is not something I would cellar long term. It's drinking well now. Pop it, give it lots of air, and enjoy, but don't serve it with anything too delicate. This wine needs grilled meat or cheese. It went well with a trio of cheeses and chicken liver pate on grilled focaccia. While this is a well made wine, ultimately, I'm not a huge fan of this style of Pinot. I prefer Pinots with more structure, elegance, and subtlety.

November 24, 2006 - This has really opened up since the last time I tried it. Deep and richly flavored with creamy blueberry, dark cherry and spice. Could use a little more bottle time to balance out but drinking well now.
