January 21, 2022 - elegant and feminine nebbiolo (chiavennasca variety in the Valtellina region) with nuances of dried flowers and some tertiary scents like underbrush and light graphite. Still youthful and quite tannic, will be in its best drinking window for at least 3 to 4 years, likely to get more roundness but unlikely to improve overall

February 19, 2021 - truly nice nebbiolo / chiavennasca from Valtellina which spent a number of years at Arpepe's cellars before releasing. Time has delivered an impressive wine, more seductive than its classification. Balanced and pleasant nebbiolo, classic and classy

July 31, 2019 - Ar.Pe.Pe. dinner (Bacaro, Braddon, Canberra): The appearance is clear and medium ruby in colour. Tears are visible.

The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium(-) intensity. Swirling reveals notes of mineral (tar), black fruit (black cherry), and floral characters (subtle rose). The wine appears youthful.

On the palate, the wine is dry with high acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are ripe and silky in nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (black cherry, mulberry), mineral (tar), and oak (dark chocolate). The finish has a medium(+) length and shows additional notes of mineral (tar) and floral (roses).

This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and are well-balanced with the acidity and alcohol. The silky tannins provide an enjoyable textural element to the wine. In its current state, the wine shows primary and secondary characteristics. The primary fruit is quite prominent on both the nose and the palate, with the ‘tar and roses’ combination showing well. The oak characteristics are more in the background on this wine, not interfering with the primary fruit. The wine has a finish with great length.

The wine drinks well now, but has potential for further ageing. The fruit intensity is great and the tannin and acid structure should continue to support the wine as tertiary notes develop.

March 11, 2018 - Open for a day or so.
Whisper of wood, Bellini and florals on the nose.
Fully coats the palate w wet waves of the varietal; goes up the nose like exhaust.
Notes of straw and wood ear mushroom.
    Moderate heat short finish.

August 24, 2015 - Beautiful classic expression of bright mountain nebbiolo aromatics, open to the nose. Fairly light-bodied, but intensely flavoured and well structured thanks to the high acidity and good tannic grip. Lovely stuff to drink now or hold for 5 years, at least.
