August 25, 2023 - Giant bouquet of dark cherry, plum, pencil shavings. Very subtle spearmint (Josh). On the palate, we taste tart cherry and tannic dark fruits. Nicely structured wine, good balance and acidity. Expect it would be fabulous with food. Wow. Delicious. Drinking window definitely not closed at 2021. Still open.

February 6, 2022 - Decanted for a couple hours, but was drinking nice right after popping. Fruit was a bit more present in the beginning, then tertiary flavors of cassis, mint and cedar. Tannins still solid and not flabby at all. Acididy is medium+ and mouth watering. Drinking very nice

December 24, 2021 - Decanted for 3-4 hours. Musty nose upon opening. Deep red in the glass, no discernable bricking; musty nose at first, but muted fruit after decanting. Stewed fruit on the palate - reminded me of an older Bordeaux from not a great year. Complex finish, with some red fruit, a little menthol, and more stewed fruit. Enjoyable.

May 16, 2021 - I have had several vintages of this special Merlot. The 2011 is disappointing. A clear example where vintages can really vary. Color and body were missing the typical purple medium-heavy body and made it to dark garnet and medium body... maybe. For this heralded mountain fruit that is far from typical. Both palate and nose had some nice subtleties of earth and stone and no over-ripe sweetness, but again, not meeting expectations of a unrestrained and age worthy wine. There was nothing wrong with this wine and many a merlot would not compare, but certainly not up to par and will be unloading the rest of my 2011.
Edit: After opening a second bottle from the 3pack, I determined we had a batch of bad corks and replaced the 3pack.

December 30, 2018 - Easy drinking fruit forward merlot. Finish isn't as strong as the bolder red fruit on the nose. Medium acidity.
