April 24, 2023 - A stunning bottle bought and stored since release. Unbelievably bright, intense and captivating aromas. Classically Giacosa with a intense, pure, silkiness. Remarkable energy and purity at 45 years with the stuffing/balance to go another decade easily.

October 26, 2021 - "Baby Masseto" and a Night of Nebbiolo through the Decades (Charlotte, NC): Opened 4 hours before serving. Tasted side-by-side with the ‘64 Luigi Bosca Riserva and was a perfect companion standing shoulder to shoulder in quality and taste. Opulent aromatic nose of red fruits and spices (anise). Lighter on the palate versus the Bosca though any mention of a critique is genuinely splitting hairs between spectacular wines. Wonderfully balanced wine with rich dark fruits layered over notes of balsamic and licorice. Lovingly long finish. A powerhouse of a wine that could be consumed over many hours.

May 23, 2018 - G. Conterno v. B. Giacosa (Maialino): Matute and tertiary nose, dusty, badly thinning out and fading. This nose is really coming and going and is now showing some more lively red berry. Volatile. Palate is more consistent and is soft and elegant. Difficult to get a good read on tonight.

January 29, 2016 - Barolo and Burgundy dinner - 79 Cristal, 89 & 93 DRC Ech, 05 RSV, 10 Rousseau CdB and etc. (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): No great wines, just great bottles. Expressive nose of red fruits, leather, licorice and earth. Excellent concentration, rustic tannins and long finish. This bottle seemed a bit monolithic and rustic. Impressive but not as compelling as the last bottle.

December 10, 2015 - Nebbiolo Dinner with Punch Brothers (Peck's Arcade, Troy, NY): [Double-decanted at 11am. Consumed around 1:30am.] This brings it to a whole nother level. Huge structure. Sweet soft tannins. Enormous complexity. Distinctive Giacosa fruitcake. Great!
