August 29, 2010 - This is an excellent Bourgogne, easily capable of being mistaken for village at least. Well-balnced, some sweet cherry, mild minerality, cola.

May 31, 2010 - Still lively, with red fruit and some earthiness. Elegant structure. This is a wonderful value.

February 26, 2009 - Similar findings to previous taster, almost 2 years later. Fine, old-school wine, if slightly under-fruited, with notes of tart cherries and earthiness and a healthy acidity profile (some may find it a bit too much so). I enjoyed this wine, but feel either more time in the cellar or plenty of air are called for as I still think this wine can become even better with a little more development...or not. FYI, no surprise, but Bachelet's 2001 Charmes is truly special stuff, which is what inspired me to try this wine.

Burgundy-Report

  • By Bill Nanson
    4/1/2007 (link)

(Bachelet Denis Bourgogne Rouge) Medium cherry-red. The nose is wide, faintly funky and softly sweet and red. The palate is relatively soft with a red fruit complexion but initially simple with slightly shrill acidity. Aeration bit-by-bit subdues the acidity and you are left with a soft and friendly wine that shows little tannin and a reasonable length. Given a similar performance on day two (the bottle spent the night in the fridge) it seems more of a temperature effect - quite tart cold, smoother at room temperature. Easy drinking.
