January 26, 2023 - Decanted and poured about forty minutes later, the wine continued to open up and become more aromatically expressive over the next couple hours..nicely balanced, I think this is in its drinking window, and should remain so for some time

January 23, 2023 - There are a few things to love about this wine. The way the varietals are evenly allotted, 38% ea. Franc and CS, 12% ea. PV and Merlot. It just feels right. Flavors are still bold, and smooth. Probably done developing here, time to drink it soon. Savor it!

November 26, 2022 - Something was wrong with this - little or no flavor other than a bit of heat - and eventually a little bell pepper. None of the trademark Cadence qualities I treasure. It happens.

November 5, 2022 - The Nearly Annual Lyon 10 Year Retro Tasting #24, Wines of Washington (Lyon Again, Eugene, OR): Just enough VA to call "off" though the palate was ok. The other Cadence in this event was similar -- yikes!

September 20, 2022 - The 2012 Cadence Ciel du Cheval is a beast, still in need of taming, showing a dark, rich and deeply alluring bouquet of mocha-tinged blueberry and cherry accentuated by balsam herbs and hints of camphor. Velvety smooth yet packed full of zesty, energizing acidity, this impresses with a mix of heady black fruits and dark chocolate tones offset by white pepper and a mentholated freshness toward the close that lights up the entire experience. The 2012 leaves adolescent tannins, still maturing, along with medicinal blackberries and a twang of bitter spirits--yet not heat--through the long and dramatic finale. This beautiful expression of the vintage is a blend of 38% Cabernet Franc, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot from the Ciel du Cheval vineyard. I'll bury the next bottle for 2025.
