May 11, 2019 - Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whites, 8 Reds, & 6 *shared* bottles] from 05/10/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): THANK you for sharing this *SUPERB* bottle of wine, Joaquin! :)

100% Nebbiolo, planted in the del Gris Vyd of Monforte d’Alba’s Ginestra Cru in ’78 @ 4.500/5,000 vines/ha; Soil types are 50% sand, 34% silt, & 16% clay on a 30% slope with S, SE exposure @ 300-320 m elev. Typically, “Selected & picked by hand in mid-Oct with alcoholic fermentation & maceration in s/s horizontal fermenters for 12-15 days, ff’d by aging in FR oak barrels.”

N: RIPE berries slightly atop vanilla with undertones of roses? Intensity lurking

P: M body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by astringent pucker which, without EVER losing contact with the init frt, slowly, seamlessly evolves into a very LONG, BALANCED, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with a refined swtness to the few remaining dusty tannins. At or near its apex, & should EASILY make its 35th, being able to accompany food for all of that! My Exceptional- (≈96,97/100), & that MIGHT be conservative!

June 7, 2014 - Bricked edges. Off putting aromas when opened which improved over 24 hours, off bottle. Some okay prune and port like flavors the next day but went down the drain.

February 17, 2013 - The wine looks brick colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Hay/Straw, Tea, Stems, and Mineral. It tastes like Hay/Straw, Stems, and Black Olive. The body is Light. The wine has Smooth texture and good acidity. The wine finishes Medium.

March 31, 2009 - Piedmont Night (Eleven Madison Park): Young and primary. Deep concentation of fruit marked by oak. One presumes they used the barriques to give it some modern polish. But compare it to the traditionally made '90 Scarpa next to it. That wine is the essence of polish, while this is rough and rustic in texture. Isn't it ironic?

September 29, 2006 - All the fruit in this cloudy brick-colored wine has turned to tar and leather but there remains a formidable level of tannin, rendering the mouthfeel austere and bitter. With several hours to breathe it smoothes up some but remains brutish and hard.
