February 14, 2008 - Bought based on local shop's owner's recommendation. Our first experience with a Cali Pinot more than 4-5 years old. This is an absolutely fabulous wine and one of my favorite Cali Pinots to date. Basically popped and poured. Medium purple in color with bricking near the edges. Huge earthy nose for the first hour, with cranberry, red cherry, sweet baking spices, and some green tea eventually coming through on the nose. The earthiness dissipated almost entirely after the first hour. Palate showed sweet spices, cherries, and forest floor throughout. Nice complexity, still has some nice acidity, a bit of a tannic kick, and a wonderful, medium-length finish. This is probably near its peak, but may still improve with another year or two. It's definitely nowhere near decline.
