September 27, 2014 - Somewhat hazy copper color, reminiscent of rusty water. Madeirized nose with oxidized aromas of roasted nuts, caramel, bruised apple, some raisin and a hint of withered florals. Bone-dry, somewhat pungent and full-bodied palate with crisp and complex rancio flavors of butterscotch, bruised apple, cream, lemon juice, roasted nuts and some Asian spice. Quite long, refreshing and almost crisp finish with complex, oxidative rancio flavors of lemon, apple peel, roasted nuts, some green apple and a hint of caramel. Alcohol gives some warmth to the aftertaste.
A nice and refreshing oxidative wine that is something not unlike an inexpensive and simple dry Madeira. It might be that the wine's oxidative rancio flavors with a slight touch of aldehydic pungency are a bit too much for people who expect their oxidative wines to have some residual sugar - this is stylistically a bit like Vin Jaune from Jura, but with more richness and body and less complexity. Probably a wonderful pairing with nuts or hard, nutty cheeses. Solid value at only 6,55€.
