It was a perfectly simple and enjoyable wine after a long day of too much exercise and a strong desire to just veg with a decent and simple wine. At 6.99, it was just right, a SS wine for the occasion.

    No reason to buy again.

March 13, 2018 - Drank over 3 hrs and it improved. Probably would be better younger but good value for the $

June 20, 2016 - This wine is an enigma; vinified from the ancient Carignano grape in Sardinia it is chameleon-like. A gift, (13.5% abv, screw-top) opened slightly-chilled (65f) to serve with meat Tortellini. Instead of a ruby-red, wine is more of a dusky, garnet red in the glass.

Our initial impression was 'ughhh,' with a pronounced unpleasant bitter taste, astringent and harsh; opening a rose wine to finish the entree, thought we'd have to dump the rest down the drain. Too late, I noticed the label to "uncork 1 hour beforehand" (ironic for a screw-top). As an afterthought I put it aside to sample another day.

Long story short, surprisingly the longer I waited it seems the better I liked it.

Sampled by itself a couple of days later, the wine had smoothed-out, was full-bodied and full-flavored with a nose of dark red fruit, taste of cherries & dark plums, and a pleasantly tart lingering aftertaste. It seemed to get better with each tasting, drinkable up to several days later.

Rather than a 'Dumper' it is intriguing for its Jekyll-Hyde complex, revealing different personalities each time, and seemingly '9-lives' longevity; now I'd seek out to purchase for myself. Next time....I'll take seriously the admonishment to open well before serving (maybe a day, or two?) and accompaniment suggestion of full-flavored entrées like red meats or piquant cheese.

April 22, 2016 - 100% Carignano. Fresh, but with a green grassiness to the nose. Sweet grass.
