November 11, 2022 - Wow this was excellent. Restaurant purchase. Incredible nose of apricot and orange marmalade, honey and botrytis. Orange blossom. The palate has a lovely light feel with great energy and it just dances. This particular bottle was better than an ‘81 Yquem last year though the Yquem provenance was not as good.

July 27, 2021 - One of the better 1981's I've had. Almost as bitter as sweet, which I enjoyed.

May 24, 2021 - Bought by RG in 1984 for $15 on release; cellared since release by him. // Drop-dead gorgeous, racy wine with Climens elegance and sophistication. This bottle had an excellent fill and, well, go clearly go for another couple of decades. Wow wine. No sign of oxidation or unbalance. This lovely, racy, NOT corpulent, NOT massive wine, was a superb match to grilled pineapple (slightly burned by me). Tasted this morning: Held up well. Stays on palate for > 30 seconds. Helps cement Climens as my favorite Sauterne barring Yquem.

Tasted next to left-over-from-night-before 2001 Guiraud, which showed better than ever in past (97). Nonetheless my preference for personal drinking would be this wine, given its raciness although the score not as high.

October 27, 2019 - Wir empfanden ihn als etwas und herb. Grosses Aromaspektrum, ein Wein um sich dafür Zeit zu nehmen.

October 5, 2019 - Chris' Birthday Dinner (Summer Palace, Regent Hotel): Pretty pleasant, but not one the greater Climens. The nose was a little unusual I thought - the standard Sauternes / Barsac notes of brown sugar and candied apples were there, along with some florals and little mineral notes, but there was also a whiff of boiled sweets to it, like watermelon candy and a dollop of cream I thought. Pretty pleasant. The palate was more in line with what I would normally expect from a Climens from a middling vintage; creamy texture, but elegant and fairly ageless, with a nice expression of apples and mineral with a little lemony edge. Not much botrytis on this I thought, but what it lacked in depth and voluptuousness was made up for by a fresh friendliness. Decent rather than great, but this was fairly enjoyable nonetheless.
