May 28, 2019 - An Amontillado made by Almacenista Manuel Cuevas Jurado in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Bottled from a cask that belongs to a 21-cask solera system. Average age of bottled wine is around 12 years. 17,5% alcohol.

Deep, luminous coppery color with a burnished yellow rim. Very savory and nutty nose with aromas of dry hay, some roasted chestnuts, a little bit of Corn Flakes, light smoky tones, a hint of syrupy molasses and a sharp hint of aldehydic pungency. The wine is dry and light-to-medium-bodied yet surprisingly oily on the palate with flavors of chopped nuts, porcini mushrooms, some malt syrup, a little bit of roasted walnuts, light Corn Flake tones, sweeter hints of honey and baked apple and a yeasty touch from the biological aging. The saline, aldehydic pungency seems quite light and easy here. Overall the mouthfeel is silky smooth and quite soft, partly thanks to the mellow aldehydic tang and partly thanks to the rather low acidity. The finish is dry, medium-long and quite savory with flavors of porcini mushrooms, some chopped nuts, a little bit of smoke, light syrupy oxidative tones, a hint of bruised green apples and a salty touch of sea breeze.

A smooth, mellow and pleasantly complex Amontillado that feels quite mild and easy on the tangy aldehydic side, but has also very understated fruit department; the wine is all about those savory flavors that come from slow oxidation and biological aging. Perhaps less an Amontillado to "wow" anyone but more a wine that can be just sipped on its own or with tapas. Easier and less complex than the Lustau's Obregín Amontillade del Puerto that was tasted alongside this wine.

September 2, 2017 - Nose: Medium intensity. Dried fruit and hazelnut with caramel.
Palate: sweet flavours more evident - caramel, praline, balanced by the yeast notes and some savoury, meaty notes in there too. Finishes a bit short.

Good, and tasty. Maybe lacking a USP.

December 31, 2014 - Wine Group New Year's Eve Dinner hosted by Aniko. Nose of hazelnuts, baked walnut tart, hints of honey, dust, and fig, more of the same on the palate, paired with the soup, medium body, and medium/long finish, not my style.

    November 10, 2014 - Sight: Tawny/brown
    Nose: Chamomile, orange zest, spices
Palate: Unintegrated. The biological characteristics alongside the salinity and oxidation leave this wine completely out of balance. I wanted to like it. Just didnt.
