February 6, 2017 - Guys Wine Night - Bring something you've been saving (Jason's House): We drank the 2000 Plumpjack Reserve cork wine alongside the 2000 reserve stelvin closure. The stelvin closure was definitely fresher and had less nuance upon first opening. Initially, I could tell them apart with authority. It would be difficult to pick a favorite, more of a preference towards sappy fruit with flowers, cherry and vanilla versus secondary characteristics of tobacco, earth and cedar. After about an hour in glass, the two wines were practically identical, and I could no longer find any discernible difference. I have to say, for 2000, these wines drink pretty well. Silky red fruit, acidity and earth.

January 4, 2015 - An unexpected, fully mature surprise. Maybe it's the Stelvin closure, perhaps the quality of the fruit itself, though likely it's a combination - this is still hanging in there. Not as fresh as it may have been at one point, but not as forward as it (likely) was either; I'm willing to accept the trade off. A delicious concoction of sweet milk chocolate, baking spices, tobacco and creamy cassis fruit. Paired with a blackened ribeye steak, this was up to the task, but remained restrained and polished even on its own. Fascinating bottle (design) and I can only think how much of a PITA the front label, with its recessed position on the molded glass must be at the production level. The acidity was the key to this wine, not something I'd have expected from this vintage/age. Nonetheless, time to drink up, now and over the next few years. Tannins and 14,6% abv are both fully resolved. Worth $75 (Last Bottle)? Not sure about that, but glad to have enjoyed it with a meal and friends. Classy stuff. Thru 2017

April 8, 2012 - Dark inky purple, with the tannin starting to fall out. Very interesting nose of cedar, blueberries, and pine. I've never experienced wine with such an overt blueberry taste, but there it was. Mixed with pine, menthol, and a slight green pepper kind of thing.... Very interesting stuff. Fruit and structure seem to be in place to last while longer, even though it's starting to drop some color.

February 7, 2012 - Age is working wonders on this wine. Still good fruit, with hints of spice and anise on the nose. On the palate smooth round fruit rolls into smooth round tannins. Long finish is a joy throughout. PDQ93

September 14, 2011 - WOW...a real winner! So smooth and non-tannic. Decanted it for an hour and it was the talk of the restaurant! Paired well with steak. Wish I had a dozen more of these babies!
