October 17, 2022 - 2013 old vine Bouland, vineyard aged, on the shelf at the local bottle shop? Don't mind if I do.

Bottle in good shape, cork showing cellar mold and seepage about halfway up. Burgundy red with a slight orange tint, no rim separation. Characteristic Bojo fruit quiet on the nose, instead showcasing delineated herbal and soft floral tones which open further with aeration to cinnamon and warm spice. Great core of central acidity and tannins with just enough life left to provide necessary framing. Palate opens surprisingly primary, dominated by cranberry and tart red fruit, but levels off to show secondary cedar and herbal complexity on a long finish. Excellent, drink now.

Probably the oldest pedigreed Beaujolais I've had, and while I thoroughly enjoyed this, I'm disappointed it hasn't evolved more interesting features.

June 13, 2020 - An incredibly high, and hard to justify score for a Beaujolais. Drinking at peak. Beautiful fruity nose, and a palate redolent of Gamay fruit, great acidity and unobtrusive tannins. Blows away any of the 2009's that I thought so much of. Drink now. Hard to imagine it will get much better.

NOSE: strong scent of strawberry jam; raspberry; gentle undertone of damp soil; clean.

BODY: magenta-ruby color of medium depth; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: "fresh"; little-to-no tannin; flashy; slight savory aspect; very easy-drinking; red-fruited, with moderate acidity; 13% alc. not noticeable; very elegant wine; seems to have just barely crossed the line from rustic/austere to fruity/smooth; I wonder where age would take this wine --- if time would bring greater weight then that would be good --- less weight & fruit would be bad … regardless, this is a pleasure to drink now; better than a recent Burgaud Cote du Py Reserve and not as good as the Foillard Cote du Py; just to be safe, I'd recommending drinking in the near term.

January 13, 2016 - The Bouland Delys is brooding and deep this year, and a really lovely bottle of cru Beaujolais. The bouquet opens up in the decanter to reveal sappy black cherry, wild plum and incipient rich earth and pine forest sous bois. On the palate the wine is sappy, deep and three-dimensional, and when it unwinds in the cellar I expect this to become really impressive in its volume. When will this truly show all its potential? At around age ten, I expect. Qualitatively this seems similar to the sumptuous 2011, but perhaps even more potentially long lived.
