February 6, 2024 - A 9L salmanzar was decanted for ~2 hours prior to drinking. Showed fine with no heat that needed to blow off. I thought it might have shown better with another 5 years in bottle or a couple of hours decant, but wasn't sure. Black fruit with smoky tobacco, leather, violets and clove. Tannins plus tannin, medium acid. Overpowered a Beef Wellington pairing. At the time, I gave it a 92 but really didn't love it that much.

Fast forward to 3 days later. The residual wine of the 9L was stored in some random 750ml bottles with no inert gas or other method to minimize oxidation. After the 3 days, we re-tasted. The wine showed ZERO oxidation. But it was showing MUCH better! Really fun now. It was smoother, and the flavors had gelled. Drank beautifully as an aperitif. It also paired well with both grilled steak and baked mushrooms in a filo pastry. Now I'd give it 96 points, maybe higher.

May 19, 2018 - PnP and this was ready to go. A little heat at first, but it blew off soon enough. Powerful but with a refined elegance that offers a more silky mouthfeel when compared to the Reserve or standard Cabernets. The Cuvee L is nice, but I probably favor the concentration of the Reserve over the Cuvee L. Specific notes of black raspberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, black fig, and truffle. There is a sophistication here that is notable, so it certainly gains points there. Flavors are complex and inviting. Good weight, but I wanted just a little more "oomph." 94+ points for me.

Drink now or hold with confidence for a number of years.

March 19, 2017 - 2012 Lewis cuvée 95+ Points. A powerful beautifully constructed wine that would have scored higher if given more time to breath. As with Lewis wines the color was fabulous, deep, dark inky purple black. On the palate, sleek, elegant, and sophisticatedly refined. This Lewis is focused yet the black ripe fruit that slowly started to come to the fore but the wine gone befor it had really had a chance to strut its stuff. This is a solid effort by a winery that continues to produce winners consistently. Still a baby, l expect this wine to get better with plenty of life and development ahead of it. We thougly enjoy this wine while dining at a steakhouse on a Royal Caribbean cruise.
