August 7, 2015 - We decided to try some Japanese wines from Chateau Mercian given we know virtually nothing about wines from The Land of the Rising Son. Ensemble is a blend of Merlot from Nagano Prefecture and Muscat Bailey (translation?) from Yamanashi Prefecture. Color is light, slightly muddy ruby red. Plums, prunes, slightly dirty wet forest (slightly Burgundian) and cranberries on the nose. Dark red fruit, cherries and subtle, yet slowly developing, tannins. Fairly short finish with a bit of spice and vanilla. Interesting. Relatively simple, easy sipping cocktail party wine.

December 29, 2014 - Rather pale ruby hue. The first nose is quite open with ripe blackberry, red cherry, strawberry, with undertone of earth, oak, and spices. Medium+ body and tannin, medium alcohol and acidity. But length is rather short
