Community Tasting Notes 14

  • greenblanket Likes this wine:

June 7, 2011 - On the back side but only barely; showing some nice dark fruit with tertiary syrah notes and decent acidity. For a ten years out Washington Syrah? Pretty damn good.

February 10, 2010 - Time to drink up. This is at its peak, and perhaps approaching the border to decline. Feels a bit out of balance alcohol wise, but has nice blueberry, spice, and pepper.

February 8, 2009 - Nice wine and especially good with the young chef's barbecued rack of pork loin. There's a whole lotta of oak here but it's actually pretty well integrated and the fruit has turned over the driver's seat to some nice structural elements. Still lively and very good at more than seven years after vintage.

September 14, 2008 - Everything I want in a W2 syrah. Intense nose of dark fruit, spice, mocha, and rare meat. Similar on the palate with a great background of mocha/vanilla coming from the French and American oak rapping around perfectly ripe blueberries, cherries, plum, smoked meat, and sweet herbs. Drinking well now, but still has plenty of life left. Enjoyed this a little more than the 2001 CV Syrah drunk the night before. Everything was bigger and brighter.

June 6, 2008 - At Pacific Time, Design district, Miami. Charlie & Maria Frumkin's wine. Charlie visited Walla Walla several years ago and he had to beg them to sell him a cs. We had just finished my 96 Phelps Backus, when we poured the L'Ecole. At the first sip, I FINALLY Identified White Pepper, in a a Syrah. This wine was ripe and luscious, and balanced. It would have fared well versus the stella, and pricey, Northern Rhone's we had Wednesday, June 4th(See Tasting Events- French Bakery Northern Rhone BYO Dinner. ).
