Community Tasting Notes 5

April 10, 2020 - This wine deals in black. Black pepper nose. This wine is marked by black olive and blackberry flavors. Short finish. Funky with stems. Very unique wine. My wife was put off by the stem component and thought it odd (she's a wine lover too - we've both tasted with the wine maker). I enjoyed it very much. Syrah is such a compelling varietal. The score is mine. 89 I do think this wine has upside with the stems over time.

January 27, 2019 - Decanted for an hour and drank over the next 2. Nose of smoked meats. Tastes of tart cranberries, with a touch of strawberry on the last glass. Nice finish. Really good tonight.

October 29, 2017 - Not giving up much nose until opened in the decanter for a few hours - finally got aromas I’d smoke meats. Little bit of fruit on the palate followed by some drying tannins and a medium finish. Just ok for me tonight.

April 6, 2015 - So young but just had to give one a try. Had over two days. Day 1 showed some funk on the nose that blew off after a few hours. Good weight but hard to really determine much. Day 2 showed beautiful fruit, huge tannin and no noticable oak. Based on my experience, I really wouldn't open another for 2 years.

January 12, 2015 - Some '13 Mike Smith Pinot and Syrah: Violets, blood, peppery perfume, hint of cinnamon/allspice. Really invitingly rich nose.
Medium weight, ripe and delicious, boysenberry and cassis. Spot on acidity.
Firm, chalky tannins. Young, nicely structured. Winner.
