July 15, 2016 - Baseball and wines at Delectable happy hour (Delectable HQ): Slightly natty nose with earthy red fruit and a hint of durian. Medium body, medium acid, medium tannins. Nice with a bit of a chill. There's an earthy complexity here but I just wasn't feeling the nose.

July 8, 2015 - Smells of celery, pepper, and medium ripe red fruit. Fairly elegant with subdued fruits, more black pepper. Long, lingering, fruity aftertaste. This is good stuff. Could easily be mistaken for a medium bodied pinot. When first popped it was fairly acidic and let sit for 45 minutes - changed quite a bit, became a bit more round. Paired well with cornmeal crusted catfish with cucumbers/onion dish and was great on its own as well.

July 7, 2015 - Breathed around a half hour in glasses. Dark beet red. A powerful & intense take on Valdiguie. Fleshy, juicy black & red fruit with a strong tannic backbone. Shows a spicy character through the mid palate. Alongside the powerful & showy elements of this wine, an elegance & focus show the little details about Valdiguie. Black currants & herbs linger on the palate.

A real revelation here, I generally expect Valdiguie to be a fruity vin de soif & this one is a serious wine looking for serious food. Very impressive.
