February 3, 2018 - usually love this, but a bit disappointing. maybe an off bottle.

March 15, 2017 - Tasted blind along with 2013 Dolcetto, 2013 Nebbiolo and 2013 Barbera in order to guess which one is which. Fermented in open-top French oak fermentors and stainless steel tanks. Aged in old, large French oak foudres for 10-12 months.

The wine looks very similar to the Dolcetto sitting in the neighboring glass with its black cherry color with a hint of blue hue, but this one is noticeably more translucent than the almost-opaque Dolcetto. The aromatic, red-toned nose is attractive, albeit rather restrained with subtle aromas of perfumed floral notes, raspberries, some jammy dark berries and a hint of lingonberry. The wine feels medium-bodied, quite high-toned and extremely crunchy on the palate with very vibrant and almost crisp flavors of sour cherries, sweet strawberries, brambly raspberries, some herbal bitterness and a hint of black cherries. The wine feels seriously structured with its high acidity and moderately firm and relatively grippy tannins, but for such a crunchy and only medium-bodied wine, this is remarkably serious effort with surprisingly concentrated feel. The finish is quite tannic with noticeable astringency, sour cherry bitterness and intense, very slightly sweet and remarkably long flavors of very ripe dark berries, some herbal bitterness, a little bit of brambly raspberry, tart lingonberries and cranberries and a hint of smoky, earthy minerality.

I guessed the variety correct, because stylistically it seemed very similar to Dolcetto, but more red-toned (whereas Dolcetto was darker-toned) and translucent in color. Among these four wines, this is by far my biggest favorite with its imposing structure, pure and crunchy fruit flavors, sense of concentration and just general intensity without any sense of heaviness, over-extraction or the wine just being overdone. This is more like a classic, old-school Barbaresco, but only made from Freisa instead of Nebbiolo. Very lovely, seriously structured and all-in-all impressive Piedmontese red. Based on how primary and tightly-knit the wine is, I wouldn't touch any bottles for the next 4-6 years. Most likely this wine will still need a decade or more to reach its peak. Very highly recommended.

February 14, 2017 - I really enjoyed this after forgetting about in my fridge for three weeks. This wine was so fresh, and was vibrant with fruit, sweet herbs. Wonderful minerality, and acidity. Great balance Hold these for the real magic.

March 5, 2016 - Not bad with burgers. Black cherry. Might age. Kind of simple.

October 16, 2015 - Nice simple red. Not sure about the QPR when compared to certain Sicilians and other Langhe Nebbiolios at similar or lower price points and flavor/body profiles. Enjoyable nonetheless and always fun to try a new grape that isn't disappointing. Had with mushroom pizza and the acid and tannins played nicely.
