March 25, 2023 - Pure ruby crimson brilliance with zero color degradation. Magical nose of mixed berries jam and sweet paste bread. The wine itself is magical too, in a perfectly integrated place, singing with all cylinders firing. The heat of the vintage shows in the sweetness of the wine, but there are no stewed fruit notes at all. Sweet blackberry and intense blueberry notes dominate with a hint of tar at the edges. Though a little sweet for my liking, this is peak Grenache.

November 23, 2020 - This is still really solid. As others noted lots of tertiary flavors now. What is amazing is how steady it is. Not a quick decline that makes me hurry to tastes before it falls apart. This has a lovey perfumey nose. Some lovely dark cherry. Savory flavors. A slight bitterness on the finish. Strong black cherry on the finish. Some subtle Smokey flavors. This is opening up the longer it is in the glass. My last bottle but I would not be worried waiting another few years of I had another.

September 20, 2020 - Well colore surprised. Great cork condition and obviously a well stored bottle. Definitely in the tertiary phase but this was still great. Long finish with interesting fruit and acid, highly enjoyable with roast lamb. On its way down but still something to savor.

August 16, 2020 - Hanging in there beautifully. In 2009, I thought this was at its peak. Maybe but eleven years later, it’s still going strong. Ruby color is holding on. The nose is full of rustic, tertiary elements: rubber, garrigue, blood and dark red fruits. Medium bodied and slightly animal. A sauvage and fun wine. Drink up. (92)

January 19, 2020 - At over twenty years old, the '98 Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape showed a perfectly mature and refined bouquet of dried strawberries and dusty earth with cedar-cigar box, pine, hints of cooling menthol, and sweet herbs. On the palate, textures of pure silk ushered notes of plum, blueberry and ripe strawberry fruits, with hints of mint leaf and chocolate across the senses, guided by balanced acids and leaving just a hint of residual tannin. The finish was long and wonderfully fresh, even cooling to senses, displaying hints of plum, subtle ripe cherry and lingering florals. I don't see this improving, nor declining any time soon--simple settled in a perfect drinking window.
