Community Tasting Notes 2

June 2, 2017 - {cork, 13%} Slightly brick-looking garnet. Smoke, spice, plums, tobacco. Developed, slightly varnishy quality too. Pleasant, soft aged flavours, not terribly characterful, but with a representative nod to the franc grape. Low/medium dusty tannins which do none-the-less rather build on the otherwise low-key palate, to the point where they dominate the fading plummy fruit. Medium-bodied. Smokey but not oaky. Rather a hole in the middle of the palate, surrounded by tannic impression and wisps of varnishy acid. Ready to drink, or past peak (or possibly slightly over-heated in storage).

March 9, 2015 - Translucent, luminous cherry red color. Wild, bright and lively nose with aromas of herbaceous vegetal character, crunchy cranberries, some zesty Campari character, a little bit of roasted bell pepper and a smoky hint of chipotle. The wine is dry, light-bodied and juicy with quite tart and tangy flavors of cranberries, lingonberries, some fresh darker berries, a little bit of leafy herbaceous character, a hint of savory spice and a touch of bell pepper. The structure relies much more on the bright, high acidity than on the light-to-medium ripe tannins that show quite gentle bite. The finish is long, juicy and complex with dry flavors of lingonberries, herbal spice, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of tart cranberries, a hint of ripe blackcurrants and a touch of bell pepper.

A fun, bright and tasty little Cab Franc with wonderfully playful character that shows lovely, slightly wild edge. Not too serious or complex, but definitely nothing simple or mundane either. Although showing some leafy tones and vegetal bell pepper characteristics, this wine isn't particularly herbaceous for a Loire Cab Franc - yet it is very recognizable as such and still wonderfully fresh and crunchy at that. More of a humble everyday wine than anything big or cellarworthy - although I can expect the wine to develop at least a little bit from here. Nice stuff.
