November 13, 2022 - From the Once & Future Ravenswood library sale, this was still clearly a wine from the late 1990s, higher acid Ravenswood mold. Everything about it was bright, from the tart cherry fruit through the dusty, herb inflected finish. It needed food to tame the electricity, and rich food at that. Sadly I was grilling chicken. Air time helped a bit, but it was ultimately a bit rough to get through. I remember struggling with the acidity of some of the late 1990s Ravenswood wines, and this one hit me the same way.

With some air, tobacco notes appear. This is very smooth on the palate with a light glyceral feel that is very nice.
This will continue to evolve over the next few years, with the fruit transmuting into tobacco notes I think, but it's so good now I'd recommend trying it if you have some.
Update: I tried some on day 2 and again on day 4. It continues to hold amazingly well, showing some nice dried herb and tobacco notes. I'm a bit surprised that it's still very nice on Day 4...1 person found this helpful Comment -

September 17, 2003 - BLACK CHERRIES, RASPBERRIES, AND BLACKBERRIES IN THE NOSE. FLAVOR MATCHED THE NOSE WITH LOTS OF FRUIT INCLUDING A TOUCH OF LICORICE. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH.
