Community Tasting Notes 9

January 25, 2015 - The CT drinking window on this wine is way-off the mark for a 1.5 l bottle. Popped the cork this evening on what I thought would be a wine long past its prime based on the CT community score, and given that the bottle was not properly cellared for the first few years. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wine has aged beautifully in the magnum bottle. A little aged tinge on the first splash in the glass, then turning a dark, blackish red color. Cola, tart cherries, tar, and chocolate. More dark chocolate after time in the glass. Silky smooth with fine, well integrated tannins. Very long finish that transitions to cherry tart after 5 or more minutes. 15+ minute finish. Not a lot of layers or dimensions, but what's there tastes very good. Enjoyed this more than a fabled cabernet from Napa Valley I recently drank that cost ~10 times as much. Lastly, this beauty set me back a whopping $12.61 for a magnum. Wow!

February 28, 2011 - CT says this wine is too old. Sure enough it is. You can see some brown in color. The wine smells of sherry oxidation also, especially when it warms up.

August 29, 2009 - Simple and fruity, with a touch of acid at the finish. Minimal tannins. Fine everyday drinking.
