March 15, 2018 - My “cellar” is in boxes in our dining room as our house has been under construction since last June. (Not sure when the end date is either, hopefully May). My CT inventory is out of date by a couple of years, so not only do I not know what I have, I don’t know where anything is either. I found this in one of the boxes when I moved everything out of my now destroyed cellar in the basement.
What I like about Ed’s zins is that they are similar but different to his pinots and do not taste like other zins, except for maybe Cellars 33 by John Fones, who worked with Ed. There is a feminine quality to them where most zins take on a more Cabernet Sauvignon profile.
Opened not decanted. Showing age with a bit of brown as well as clarity at the edge of the glass. Hard candy on the entry with dark and black cherry notes. Light to medium weight in body. Ends with a semi drying finish with a bit of heat. Good+. In its peak now and I would consume sooner than later.1 person found this helpful Comment -

January 29, 2018 - More expressive on the nose and palate than a bottle a year ago. Really in a pretty good spot. somewhat claret-like as zins go. Nice balance with sufficient acidity and tannin to balance the fruitiness. Suddenly, I wish I'd bought more.

September 22, 2017 - Good fruit and plenty of peppery spice. A bitter note on the end, which I liked. It was well received at the Rosh Hashonah table and enjoyed with our brisket.

April 6, 2017 - Nice, balanced wine...to my palate, more in the 'claret' idiom for zin, rather than the bold, lush 'zinberry' style. For my tastes, it could probably stand a couple/few more years to evolve and integrate

October 1, 2016 - Boy was this spicy. As in caliente! Lots of white / cayenne pepper and toasty oak dominating the fruit side in the attack. Seems more aggressive now than 18 months ago. Hold for two more years before revisiting.
