February 28, 2023 - NV Rogna (Marta, NYC): [Opened around 1pm. Double decanted around 3pm.] Lovely bouquet of red fruit, spice, and flowers. Loads of sweet red, but rough tannins on a long finish. This needs another decade. 94-96

April 14, 2022 - The 2008 Barbaresco Vecchie Viti Pajè embodies the spicy, zesty and sometimes sultry character of the vintage. It doesn't give up its charm too easily, but instead tempts you to dig deeper, with an understated bouquet of dried rose, cedar shavings, camphor and autumnal spice. While wiry and firm, there's a deep core of tart red currant that mixes with salty minerals and inner leather tones that somehow reminds me of late night 90s romances in NYC. There are tannins here, and they're grippy, but there's also a burst of bright acidity to balance, along with an inner sweetness that lingers impossibly long. A salty aftertaste makes the mouth water, and keeps my eyes hopping back and forth from glass to bottle and back again. I think I hear Lou Reed playing in the background, or maybe that's just the wine. Either way, if you made it to the bottom of this note, then you're ok in my book. Pour yourself another.

January 7, 2020 - Another Year, Another Napa (aka Winter in Wineland IV); 1/5/2020-1/11/2020 (Napa/Sonoma California): I love this producer. I usually love this wine. And it was good. With time and air and decanting even maybe very good. But it was not what this producer can and usually does which is floor you with finesse. Older and right around when transfer from son to parent was happening. We were sharing with a friend who knows his wines and I had hoped this would be a new one for him but I'll admit it didn't stand out. So it goes. Still as I said very good by the end.

June 4, 2016 - Drank over two days and held up consistently. Intense nose of black fruit, spice, herb, wood. Palate was surprisingly rich with black fruit. Gorgeous mouthfeel, but strong tannins and some harshness going down. Beautiful, but young.
